The Hidden Economics of High-Masking
Why you are successful on paper, but exhausted in practice, and what the gap between external performance and internal expenditure actually means clinically.
Telehealth Evaluations
A conversation about how telehealth evaluations actually work: what an evaluation can see, what masking costs, and why direction matters more than a label.

Sensory Gating and the Noise You Can't Turn Off
The neurological mechanism behind sensory overload in high-masking adults, and why it is not a sensitivity problem.

Adult Autism Scale
Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale — Revised (RAADS-R). An 80-item self-report designed to identify autism in adults, accounting for trait changes over the lifespan.

Autism Traits Inventory
Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ-50). A 50-item self-report measure of autistic traits across five domains: social skills, attention switching, attention to detail, communication, and imagination.

Autism Screener
Autism Spectrum Quotient-10 (AQ-10). A brief 10-item screener for autistic traits, recommended by NICE as a first-line clinical filter before formal evaluation.

Masking Behaviors
Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q). A 25-item self-report measure of social camouflaging across three domains: assimilation, compensation, and masking. Particularly relevant for high-achieving adults with a late or missed diagnosis.

Empathy Assessment
Empathy Quotient (EQ). A 60-item self-report measure of empathy in adults, developed alongside the Systemizing Quotient to map the empathizing-systemizing profile.

Systemizing Tendency
Systemizing Quotient — Revised (SQ-R). A 75-item self-report measure of the drive to analyze and construct rule-based systems. High scores are common in autistic adults.

Repetitive Behaviors
Adult Repetitive Behaviours Questionnaire-2 (RBQ-2A). A 20-item measure of repetitive behaviours and restricted interests in adults, covering both motor and cognitive rigidity.

Demand Avoidance Profile
Extreme Demand Avoidance Questionnaire — Adult (EDA-QA). A 26-item measure of demand avoidance features associated with the Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile.

ADHD Screener
Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS v1.1). An 18-item ADHD screener developed in partnership with the WHO. Part A provides a clinically validated cutoff for likely ADHD.

Toronto Alexithymia Scale
Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20). A 20-item measure of difficulty identifying and describing emotions, across three validated subscales: DIF, DDF, and EOT.

Alexithymia Questionnaire
Online Alexithymia Questionnaire (OAQ). A 37-item self-report measure of alexithymic traits, yielding three severity bands and individual subscale scores.

Perth Alexithymia Scale
Perth Alexithymia Questionnaire (PAQ). A 24-item measure of alexithymia across five dimensions, distinguishing difficulty with positive versus negative emotional valence.

Empathy Frequency Scale
Toronto Empathy Questionnaire (TEQ). A 16-item frequency-based measure of empathic responding, using reverse-scored items to reduce social desirability effects.

Personality Profile
Big Five Inventory (BFI). A 44-item personality measure across five dimensions: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness to experience.

Social Anxiety Scale
Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS). Rates 24 social situations for both fear and avoidance, yielding a comprehensive profile of social anxiety severity.

Autistic Burnout Screener
Autistic Burnout Construct (ABO). An 8-item self-report measure of autistic burnout experiences, distinct from general burnout in its relationship to chronic masking and identity suppression.

Occupational Burnout
Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI). A 19-item burnout measure spanning three domains: personal burnout, work-related burnout, and client-related burnout.

Cognitive Reflection
Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT). A 3-question test designed to measure the tendency toward reflective versus intuitive thinking, a key variable in executive function research.

Anxiety Screener
Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7). A brief screener for anxiety severity over the past two weeks. The most widely used anxiety measure in primary care settings.

Depression Screener
Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). A 9-item screener for depression severity that maps directly to the nine DSM criteria for major depressive disorder.

Childhood ADHD History
Wender Utah Rating Scale — 25-item (WURS-25). A retrospective screener for childhood ADHD symptoms in adults. Commonly paired with current-symptom measures like the ASRS.

Sensory Profile
Glasgow Sensory Questionnaire (GSQ). A 42-item measure of sensory sensitivity across seven modalities, capturing both hyper-sensitivity and hypo-sensitivity patterns.

Brief Autism Screen
RAADS-14 Screen (RAADS-14). A 14-item brief autism screener derived from the full RAADS-R. Validated for use in adult psychiatric and primary care settings.
